Wandering through one of the biggest alpine meadows in the Garhwal Himalayas, this trek will give you a series of brilliant panoramas of the greater Himalayan ranges, pulling you towards them. At an altitude of 3048m above sea level, these slopes at Dayara, transform into a perfect ground for class A skiing, during winters, as the snow takes over. For this trip though, you will be walking through a series of unending lush green, high altitude meadows (also called Bugyal in the local Garhwali language), which run parallel to a progression of high peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas. En-route you will hike to an alpine lake near Barnala bugyal. For height gain, you will hike to a vantage point called Bakriya Top from where you will see famous peaks of, Kalanag or Black Peak(6387m), Bandar Poonch (6316m), Jaonli(6600m), The Gangotri Massif I II and III, Draupadi Ka Danda, as well as many other unclimbed virgin peaks.
Exploring a dense forest filled with different shades of red and green, you will climb above the tree line of, oaks and rhododendrons, and reach the open pasture lands of Dayara Bugyal. Most of the hike is moderate except few sections, where the gradient becomes a bit steep. All the fatigue is gone once you sit in front of a fire, as you camp for the night at the meadows. DAY 01: DEHRADUN - UTTARKASHI - BARSU ( 2100M) (DRIVE/6-7 HRS)
DAY 02: BARSU - BARNALA (2900M) (TREK /4-5 HRS)
DAY 03: BARANALA - DAYARA BUGYAL (3300M) - BAKRIYA TOP (3500M) - GUI (2450M) (TREK/6-7 HRS)
DAY 04: GUI - RAITHAL (1800M) (TREK / 4-5 HRS)
DAY 05: RAITHAL - DEHRADUN (DRIVE/ 6-7 HRS)
The drive from Dehradun to Uttarkashi is a beautiful one passing through village markets, along the river Bhagirathi to reach the town of Uttarkashi. From here it’s another hours’ drive to the village of Barsu. On arrival we check into the guesthouse / lodge, relax and take a short acclimatization hike. Overnight at Barsu
After a sumptuous breakfast we start climbing above the village of Barsu towards Barnala. The trek passes through beautiful forests of Oak and Rhododendron to reach the meadows at Barnala. Having rested for some time one will be advised to walk up a short distance to a nearby points of climb up hill mounds near the campsite. Overnight at Barnala
On this day we will ascend towards Dayara Bugyal. It’s a steep climb from Barnala meadows to reach Dayara. The panoramic view of the Himalayas from here is breathtaking to say the least. Situated at an elevation of about 10,000 feet above sea-level, this vast meadow is second to none in natural beauty. During winter it provides excellent ski slopes over an area of 28 sq. kms. You will witness some of the great Himalayan Peaks including Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, Swargarohini, Gangotri Group, Jaonli, Draupadi ka Danda & many more. After spending some time, we will trek towards Bakriya Top. This is the highest point of this beautiful meadow. Bakriya top lies at the edge of this beautiful meadow and is the vantage point offering exiting views of the Himalayas with undulating meadows towards the north and excellent views of the underlying valleys towards the south. After capturing the magnificent views of Himalayas, we will descend to Gui. Overnight at Gui.
Another glorious morning in the mountains and this is how we start our day. Today we will have leisurely morning. After breakfast we will descend to Raithal village. On your way down, you will encounter a mixed forest having oaks, rhododendrons and a few more local varieties. The descents which are gradual and completely enjoyable.
