Building a Safe and Sustainable Shelter for Cows in South Goa

SANGAMPUR GAUSHALA FOUNDATION is dedicated to protecting and caring for abandoned and vulnerable cows in the region of South Goa. One of the most important aspects of cow welfare is providing a safe and structured shelter where rescued animals can live peacefully and receive proper care. The development of a well-organized gaushala is not just about building a physical structure, but about creating an environment where cows can live with dignity, safety and proper nutrition.

At DATTAWADI, HN/61 Sanguem, Sanguem, South Goa – 403704, Goa, India, our gaushala shelter has been built to provide protection from harsh weather conditions such as extreme heat, rain and wind. The shelter structure ensures that cows have shade during the day and a safe resting place at night. Proper roofing, strong fencing and ventilation are important elements that allow the animals to remain comfortable and protected throughout the year.

The shelter also helps us maintain organized feeding areas where cows can be given fresh green fodder and clean water. By maintaining structured feeding zones, we ensure that every cow receives adequate nutrition without stress or competition. Clean surroundings also help reduce the risk of disease and improve the overall health of the animals.

Another important benefit of a structured gaushala is easier monitoring and care. Volunteers and caretakers can regularly observe the cows, identify health issues early and ensure that injured or weak animals receive the attention they need. Regular cleaning of the shelter floor and proper waste management also contributes to a healthier environment for both animals and caretakers.

At SANGAMPUR GAUSHALA FOUNDATION, the gaushala shelter is more than just a place for animals to stay. It represents compassion, responsibility and community support. The shelter allows rescued cows to live in peace after being abandoned or neglected on the streets.

However, building and maintaining a proper gaushala requires continuous support. Shelter maintenance, feeding arrangements, medical care and infrastructure improvements require resources and dedicated effort. Community participation plays a vital role in helping organizations like ours continue this work.

Through collective support, we aim to improve the shelter infrastructure further so that more cows can be rescued and protected. Every contribution helps us strengthen the facilities and provide a better environment for these sacred animals.

SANGAMPUR GAUSHALA FOUNDATION continues to work with dedication to ensure that every cow under our care receives shelter, food and protection. Our goal is to build a sustainable gaushala model that serves as an example of organized animal welfare in South Goa.
